The Arafura Sea is a shallow sea located west of the Pacific Ocean, between Australia and New Guinea. It covers a total area of about 650,000 square kilometers. Its borders include the Gulf of Carpentaria to the south, the Timor Sea to the west, and the Torres Strait to the east. It is internationally known for its rich marine biodiversity and fisheries.
