🏆 N.T. Fishing Competitions

Million Dollar Fish – Season 12
Million Dollar Fish is one of the Northern Territory’s most exciting fishing competitions, giving anglers the chance to win major cash prizes by catching tagged barramundi.
Season 12 has already produced an extraordinary result, with Darwin angler Matthew Maurice landing the competition’s only million-dollar fish at Corroboree Billabong. Fishing with his brother, Matthew hooked a barramundi measuring just over 80 centimetres and spotted the red tag as the fish leapt from the water.
His catch made him only the second angler in the competition’s history to win the top prize. The emotional announcement was followed by calls to his family, including the unforgettable news: “Mum, I’ve caught the million-dollar barra!”
The competition is still worth following, with 100 red-tagged barramundi valued at $10,000 each released across the Territory. Four of those fish had been caught when Matthew claimed the million-dollar prize, leaving 96 tagged barra still available.
Season 12 runs until 31 March 2027. Anglers must register to claim prize money, and registration also includes automatic entry into the monthly prize draw.
